Editorial policy: how studies are checked

Health content is easy to get wrong, and a lot of it online is built on studies that do not say what the writer claims. This page explains the rules this site follows.

1. Every study has to exist

On the blog, the study pages and the Ray Peat section, a study is only cited if it has a PubMed record, and each PubMed ID is checked against the paper's title, journal and year through the National Library of Medicine's database. IDs that point to the wrong paper are corrected or removed. The long articles are republished from X as they were written. Their reference lists are checked over time, and errors are fixed when they are found.

2. Claims come from the paper

Numbers and results are taken from the abstract or the full text, not from memory and not from other websites. When a post says a trial had 80 people or lasted three months, that is what the paper reports.

3. Humans, animals and cells are not the same

Posts say what kind of evidence they rest on. A result in rats is described as a result in rats. Many posts include a section called "The honest part" that states what is still unproven.

4. Opinion is marked as opinion

This site has a point of view, the bioenergetic one. Where a statement is my interpretation and not a finding, it is written as "in my view" or placed under "My take".

5. Ray Peat pages

The Ray Peat section covers the articles on his website. His views are described in our own words, each point names the article it comes from, and every page links to the original on raypeat.com. Interviews, newsletters and emails are not used as sources. The reference lists contain only studies that could be matched to a PubMed record. This site is not affiliated with raypeat.com.

6. Corrections

If something is wrong, write to coach@oxidativestate.com. Errors are fixed on the page.

7. Money

Some product links are affiliate links and are disclosed in the footer of every page. There is no sponsored content, and no company reviews or approves what is written.

8. Medical disclaimer

The site is educational and does not replace a doctor. Several substances discussed here are prescription drugs or research compounds that are not approved as medicines.
