BPC-157 Dosage: The Doses Used in the Studies, and What I Take

BPC-157 dosage: the doses used in the studies

There is no proven human dose of BPC-157. A 2026 pharmaceutical review states it plainly: no approved formulation and no validated dosing regimen.

What exists are the doses researchers gave to rats, three small human studies, and what people like me do on our own. I will keep those three apart.

BPC 157 dosage in the studies

Almost all of the research is in rats, and it uses the same few doses again and again.

  • Tendon. After the Achilles tendon was cut, rats got 10 micrograms, 10 nanograms or 10 picograms per kg, once a day. (Staresinic 2003)
  • Stomach. 10 micrograms or 10 nanograms per kg protected the stomach lining against alcohol, restraint stress and indomethacin. (Sikirić 1996)
  • Ligament, by mouth. Rats with a cut knee ligament drank water containing 0.16 micrograms per ml, about 12 ml a day, for 90 days. A cream with 1 microgram per gram also worked. (Cerovecki 2010)
  • Muscle to bone, by mouth. 10 micrograms or 10 nanograms per kg a day, given orally. (Matek 2025)

Notice how small these are, and how wide the range is. The low dose is a thousand times smaller than the high one, and both worked in the abstracts.

If you scale 10 micrograms per kg straight to a 70 kg person you get 700 micrograms. That is arithmetic, not a human dose. Nobody has tested whether a rat dose carries over that way.

The human doses

  • Bladder pain. 12 women with interstitial cystitis got a total of 10 mg, placed by a doctor around the inflamed area in a single procedure. (Lee 2024)
  • Safety pilot. 2 adults received 10 mg and then 20 mg by intravenous infusion over an hour, on consecutive days, at a private clinic. Blood markers for heart, liver, kidneys, thyroid and blood glucose did not change, and no side effects were reported. (Lee 2025)
  • Knee pain. 16 patients were followed up after a knee injection given in a clinic. The abstract does not state the dose. (Lee 2021)

That is the whole human record: fewer than 30 people, across three uncontrolled pilot studies. None of them swallowed a capsule.

BPC 157 how to take: the routes that were studied

In rats it worked by injection into the abdomen, in drinking water and as a cream on the injury. In people it has only been given by clinicians, by injection or infusion.

I do not give injection or mixing instructions. If you want the comparison of routes, it is in oral BPC-157 vs injection.

BPC 157 capsules

Capsules exist because the peptide is unusually stable in gastric juice, and because the oral rat studies above worked. That is the case for them.

The case against is simple. There is no human trial of oral BPC-157 at any dose. Nobody has measured how much of a capsule reaches human blood.

BPC 157 when to take

No study compares morning with evening, or with food against without.

  • In the rat studies it was given once a day.
  • It leaves the blood fast. In rats and dogs the half-life was under 30 minutes. (He 2022)
  • Yet the effects last far longer than that. The 2026 review calls this a disconnect: a half-life under 30 minutes against biological effects that last hours to days. (Mateescu 2026)

So a short half-life does not mean you need many doses a day. Once a day is what the animal work did.

BPC 157 side effects, and is BPC 157 safe?

The honest part.

  • No side effects were reported in the three human pilots. A 2025 systematic review found that preclinical safety studies showed no adverse effects across several organ systems. (Vasireddi 2025)
  • But the same review found no clinical safety data. Three pilots with no placebo group cannot show that something is safe.
  • The product is a risk of its own. That review warns that adverse effects are possible from unregulated manufacturing and contamination.
  • Theoretical risks. A 2026 review of unregulated injectables lists unwanted blood vessel growth among the potential risks of peptides in this class. This is a concern raised by reviewers, not something observed in a BPC-157 study. (Moiz 2026)
  • Sport. It is not approved by the FDA and it is banned in professional sports.
  • The verdict from the reviewers. Until proper trials are run, BPC-157 should be considered investigational. (McGuire 2025)

If you are pregnant, have a history of cancer or take prescription drugs, talk to your doctor before you touch any research peptide.

What I take

I take 2 capsules in the morning. The capsules I use are 500 micrograms each.

That is my own choice. It is not a dose from a human trial, because there is no such trial. I use it for my gut, on top of gelatin, enough carbs and salt.

The mechanisms, the legal status and the full list of studies are in the BPC-157 guide. The gut studies are in BPC-157 for leaky gut.

Quick answers

What is the dosage of BPC 157?

There is no validated human dose. Rat studies used 10 micrograms or 10 nanograms per kg once a day. The human pilots used 10 mg placed around the bladder in 12 women and 10 to 20 mg by infusion in 2 adults.

When should you take BPC 157?

No study has compared times of day. In rat studies it was given once daily. Its half-life in rats and dogs is under 30 minutes, but its effects last much longer.

How do you take BPC 157?

In rats it worked by injection, in drinking water and as a cream. In people it has only been given by clinicians in small pilot studies. There is no human trial of capsules.

Do BPC 157 capsules work?

In rats, oral BPC-157 healed ligament and muscle-to-bone injuries. In humans it has not been tested by mouth, so the effect of capsules is unproven.

What are the side effects of BPC 157?

None were reported in the three small human pilot studies or in preclinical safety studies. Formal clinical safety data does not exist, and contaminated or mislabelled products are a practical risk.

Is BPC 157 safe?

Unknown. Animal studies and three small human pilots reported no adverse effects, but reviewers conclude it should be considered investigational until well-designed trials are done. It is not FDA-approved.
