About OxidativeState
OxidativeState is an independent publication about metabolism, hormones and gut health. It is written by the person behind @OxidativeState on X.
The idea behind the name is simple. Energy, strength, warmth, mood, digestion and hormones are all products of how well your cells burn fuel. When oxidative metabolism runs well, most things improve together. When it does not, they fail together.
I read studies every day and I write about what I find, in plain language, with a link to the paper every time.
What is on this site
- Articles: long pieces on the gut barrier, dopamine, serotonin, sugar, calcium, nitric oxide and more.
- Blog: shorter posts built around specific studies, including the complete guide to fixing leaky gut.
- Studies: breakdowns of single PubMed studies, grouped by topic.
- Ray Peat: a database of the 3,324 studies Ray Peat cited in his articles, each matched to its PubMed record, plus pages on what he wrote about sugar, thyroid, aspirin, the carrot salad and other topics.
- Guides: reference pages on BPC-157, bromantane, vitamin E and hair loss.
- Gym: a free workout tracker that runs in your browser.
- 1:1 coaching, for people who want a personal plan.
How the content is made
Studies are linked to their PubMed pages. On the blog, the study pages and the Ray Peat section, every PubMed ID is checked against the title, journal and year of the paper. Posts say whether the evidence comes from humans, animals or cells, and my own opinions are marked as mine. The details are in the editorial policy.
Affiliate links
Some product links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through them I may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. I only link to products I use myself or would use. Nobody pays to be mentioned here, and there is no sponsored content.
Not medical advice
Everything here is educational. I am describing research and my own experience. It is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and several substances discussed on the site are prescription drugs or are not approved as medicines. Talk to a doctor about your own situation.
