PubMed: Production of superoxide and TNF-alpha from alveolar macrophages is blunted by glycine

glycine might be the most anti-inflammatory amino acid.
-protects against the effects of endotoxin(LPS)
-Inhibit TNF-alpha and superoxide production
-Prevents intracellular levels of calcium to rise.

endotoxin is nasty.
when injected/released from bacteria it triggers stress response and production of many inflammatory mediators(serotonin, nitric oxide, TNF-a, NFKB, histamine, prostaglandins)

a major signal of pathology and stress that's necessary for the production of the inflammatory mediators above is the increase in intracellular levels of calcium.

the data below shows how glycine prevents this effect.

glycine blunts the production of tumor necrosis factor-a in response to endotoxin.
