PubMed: Effects of magnesium and potassium supplementation on insomnia and sleep hormones in patients with diabetes mellitus

people with diabetes usually have sleep issues.
In this randomized controlled trial they gave 300 diabetics:
1) placebo.
2)250mg magnesium gluconate.
3)250mg potassium chloride.
4)magnesium and potassium.
sleep quality, cortisol and melatonin levels were tested.
the results?

cortsiol levels after 2 months:
magnesium group: dropped 50%
potassium group: dropped 25%
magnesium + potassium group: dropped 50%
placebo: dropped 4%.

Melatonin levels:
magnesium group: small rise
potassium group: small rise
magnesium + potassium group: 150% rise
placebo: small drop

Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) scores:
magnesium with and without potassium improved sleep score.
